Practitioner Training Course Bio-Waste Management 2017

Four day comprehensive training from 11 to 14 September 2017, includes expert seminars as well as technical site visits to biowaste facilities in Vienna and the surrounding region. There will also be a full day guided visit to the International Practitioner Day & Exhibition of composting techniques and machines in cooperation with the Austrian Compost & Biogas Association.  With 35-55% or 150-250 kg/person and year, the natural organic fraction constitutes the most important resource in municipal waste.


Programme


Framework for Training

The training will be given by Austrian experts of 100NGO ( www.eu100ngo.net), facility operators and municipal waste managers.There will be a balance of seminars and visits to facilities demonstrating state-of-the-art bio-waste collection and recycling.

Participants will receive an introduction to the current EU waste management conditions with a focus on bio-waste, different approaches of community cooperation models and decentralised composting and possible solutions for bio-waste from municipal and commercial sources, key drivers and economics.

The training considers the various background of the participants on the course and provides plenty of time for discussion and exchange of professional experiences.

Focus topics in the program include:

  1.  Composting – Anaerobic Digestion – Pyrolysis (Biochar)
  2.  Decentralised agricultural composting in cooperation with farmers
  3.  Mechanical- BiologicalTreatment (MBT) of residual waste
  4.  Food waste prevention
  5.  Separate collection schemes for biowaste
  6.  Costs and economic instruments
  7.  Explanation of general conditions and how to find solutions suiting the individual framework conditions:
    • from an economic point of view
    • from a technical point of view
    • from an organizational point of view

Additional guests, highly experienced scientific, policy and operational experts, look forward to lively discussions and exchange of ideas for implementing and improving bio-waste management.

There is also time for a cultural excursion to the Medieval Knights Templar Castle Lockenhaus.
